Caol Uno def. Mitsuhiro Ishida, RD 2, Submission
Consider me amongst the group who felt Caol Uno was going to get destroyed by the singular-minded, talented, strong Mitsuhiro Ishida. All signs pointed in the direction of T-Blood’s Ishida smothering Uno, a fighter who hadn’t competed in nearly eight months after recovering from a broken jaw. Instead, Uno, sporting swank white-and-orange shoes, played a “Wild Card” and changed things up in the opening moments of the fight by dropping Ishida with a well-timed right hook. I give Ishida credit for recovering well and turning up the heat on Caol afterwards but momentum was clearly Uno’s from that moment forward. Ishida seemed physically smaller than usual, and was sporting tape on his back, so I wonder if perhaps he wasn’t able to train at full speed in the weeks leading up to the match on Saturday night.
If I hadn’t seen it happen live on television, I might still have a hard time believing Caol Uno choked out Mitsuhiro Ishida, but it happened and as unbelieveable as it seems, Uno is now in the DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix Semi-Finals. I assume he’ll be facing Ishida’s T-Blood teammate Tatsuya Kawajiri based on interest the match-up creates as well as the intense moment between Uno and Kawajiri at the end of the show (which the HDNet production crew whiffed on by having Kenny and Bas wrap things up over it). If you didn’t see it, Kawajiri took the microphone and said something to Uno which I’ve since read was a challenge. The DREAM official in the ring had to actually put his arm in front of Tatsuya to keep him from getting any closer to Uno. That would leave Eddie Alvarez to face Shinya Ao-…er…the winner between Shinya Aoki and Katsuhiko Nagata. Sounds like two damn fine fights to me!

WENDELL Sailor scored two tries and was later subjected to a drug test as he made a successful comeback to rugby league last night.
Sailor proved himself on the field with a starring performance in a Jim Beam Cup match for St George Illawarra’s feader team, the Shellharbour Marlins.
But the stigma of his two-year ban for testing positive to cocaine remains something the dual international will have to deal with.
After the triumph of scoring the final two tries to lead the Marlins to a come-from-behind win over the Erina Eagles, Sailor was given a reality check when he was subjected to a drug test after the match.
Minutes earlier, Sailor had been followed around Ron Costello Oval by adoring fans, chanting his name. He had scored the final two tries, the Marlins coming back from a 22-0 half-time deficit to win 30-22.
"I probably would have liked to score a hat-trick, but you can’t have everything you want," Sailor said cheekily.
"I just wanted to come out and play well for the kids here and also so people don’t think I’m washed up."
St George coach Nathan Brown knows his new recruit is not short on confidence.
"I’m sure ‘Dell’ will tell me on Monday, or tonight or tomorrow (how he went). We all know big Dell," Brown said.
"We’ve been reliably informed and I’m sure big Dell will reliably inform us of that at training. He’ll turn up with video and cut his own tape and show everyone."
Sailor scored the try that put the Marlins in front for the first time, the giant winger showing he hasn’t lost his athleticism, leaping high to take a cross-field kick then stepping inside two defenders to score.
Six minutes from full-time, he demonstrated his power to crash through the Eagles’ defence for the match-winner.

The Martlet (University of Victoria)
VICTORIA (CUP) - Female gamers already know they are not really an anomaly, but now the Electronic Software Association (ESA) has completed a study that confirms it.
Females make up 38 per cent of gamers, according to the study. Perhaps more surprising is the statistic that women aged 18 and older are a greater portion of the game-playing demographic (31 per cent) than the poster child of video games, boys aged 17 and younger (20 per cent).
Developers have certainly done something right recently to get women’s attention, because the ESA’s statistics revealed that females play an average of two more hours per week than they did only a year ago. Men and women are about equal in terms of average weekly play: 7.4 hours per week for women, and 7.6 hours per week for men.
It has long been suggested that women play differently than men, and enjoy different aspects of games than men. Social aspects and the ability to customize games are generally selling points to the female market. On massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, which offer a high degree of character customization and plenty of social opportunities, for example, the male and female population is closer to equilibrium at 58 per cent men to 42 per cent women.
But the female market is diverse. There are women who enjoy light, casual gaming, both in terms of the games they play and the hours they are willing to spend to advance in a game. Lighter games such as The Sims and puzzle games for the Nintendo DS cater to that niche market. The Nintendo Wii has been applauded not only for getting women more involved in video games but also for increasing the pool of gamers. The Wii’s titles appeal to those outside of the hardcore basement nerd coterie.

Mulberry, Florida (WTSP) – It’s the fist fight being watched around the world. By now most people know what sparked it. Trash talking supposedly posted on the victim’s MySpace page.
But who are the six girls and two guys accused in the beating? Brittni Hardcastle is the one in the white tank top and pink sweats. Her grandfather told us by phone “We support her.”
The video is all the buzz at Mulberry High School where many of the suspects attend classes. Tuesday students say teachers had to tell classes to stop talking about the video.
But one student says not only are many people shocked about the video they’re also shocked about the main person throwing punches in it saying Brittni Hardcastle is one of the nicest people you’d ever want to meet.
Kathy Morrisroe is a student at Mulberry high school student and says “I couldn’t believe it. I was watching it and I saw that it was Brittni and I went to church with the girl. She doesn’t strike me at all like that.” In fact Kathy says Brittni befriended her and was very nice to her.
Miles Fass is also a Mulberry high school student who says the suspects in the video are not known as being bullies. “They’re known to be pretty cool actually to tell you the truth I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see it on the internet.”
We called the parents of the other students accused in the beating. The mother of Brittany Mayes says her daughter is “A good girl.”

Watch out, bingo. Wii has got seniors cheering, jumping out of their seats and swinging the "Wiimote" faster than they can stamp a square.
After reading that senior citizens are the second largest market for Nintendo Wii, Susan Bonvilar, director of enrollment for Suffolk University students at Dean College, decided to bring the video game system, to the Forge Hill Senior Living Center.
Last week, one dozen seniors offered stiff competition for six students in the Suffolk University Networking Club based at Dean, in their first Wii-bowling tournament at the center.
They rolled up in wheelchairs, put aside walkers, and grabbed hold of the Wiimote, a remote control which simulates a bowling ball.
"I love it. I love it because I like to bowl, I always used to bowl," said Janet Caton, a senior at the center who played for the second time last week.
"It’s something everybody can do," she said.
Her friend, Anne Formichelli, said she also enjoyed playing.
"It’s a lot like regular bowling once you can get the hang of it," Formichelli said.
The two would have played more prior to the tournament, they said, but they had to wait for a rug to be installed in the center’s living room.
"After this, I expect to play more," Caton said.
Senior Elaine Leonard, who was one of last week’s winners, beamed as she held her prize - a Suffolk University T-shirt, and described Wii as "wonderful."
"This is only the second time I’ve tried it, but I find it to be fun and hope they do it more often.
"It’s something to do, a little bit of activity," said Leonard, "I like to keep busy."
Leonard had "no idea" what Wii was when the center’s activity director, Tiffany Badger, first introduced the game about a month ago, she said.

This week, singer Keyshia Cole shoots the third video from her already platinum-selling sophomore LP, Just Like You. The single, Heaven Sent” is the fourth from the album (following “Shoulda Let You Go” featuring Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim, “Let It Go” and “I Remember”). According to ConcreteLoop.com, Benny Boom will direct the video in Hawaii. Reportedly, the treatment was inspired by the famed “Footprints in the Sand” poem.
Hip-hop pioneer KRS-One is working with fellow Brooklyn rapper Buckshot of Black Moon to create a new album – a dream come true for Buckshot as KRS not only joins him in the booth but on the roster of Buck’s Duck Down Records. “It’s a dream to be able to work with KRS-One. Before I even began rapping that is who I checked for. I kept the Blueprint album on me at all times. That is all I listened to for an entire summer.”
So far the duo has made three tracks for the as-yet-untitled album Buckshot describes as a “conflosation.” “…Even when KRS-One is flowing he’s having a conversation with his audience… ranging from New World Order, to socially conscious topics such as unemployment, poverty, and politics. At the same time, we will speak to the streets, as that is what I’m known to do.”
In another new “old school” move, KRS will also be featured on a partial Juice Crew reunion album. Rapper Craig G and Crew founder/producer Marley Marl are teaming up to release Operation: Take Back Hip-Hop later this spring. “Operation: Take Back Hip-Hop is just what it is,” Craig G said. “Instead of me wasting years complaining along with journalists and everyone else, Marley and I are trying to make change through music. This is my passion, this is what raised me, and I refuse to stand by and watch my culture get destroyed any further with poor quality music.” The album will also feature rappers Talib Kweli, Rakaa of Dilated Peoples, and Sadat X.

Some of the campaign and political news making headlines this morning:
• USA TODAY — Dems say it would be unfair for Clinton to win thanks to super delegates: "A majority of Democratic voters (55%) say it would be unfair for Hillary Rodham Clinton to win the presidential nomination through the support of ’super delegates’ if she lags among the convention delegates elected in primaries and caucuses, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll. If that happens, one in five say they wouldn’t vote for the New York senator in the general election." Related post from yesterday: Both Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama are slightly ahead of Republican Sen. John McCain, but neither has a lead wider than the margin of error.
• The St. Petersburg Times — "Backroom dealmaking" is the only way Florida Dems will get to participate: Because the Florida Democratic Party has given up trying to hold another presidential primary, "any hope for allowing Florida to participate in the hotly contested nominating fight between Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama lies with backroom dealmaking and the willingness of the major stakeholders, particularly the candidates, to find a solution."
Related story in the Detroit Free Press — Legislators start considering plan for new primary in Michigan: "Legislative leaders got their first look Monday at a draft bill that could be taken up as early as today ordering a second Democratic presidential primary in Michigan on June 3. The primary would be paid for with money that would be raised privately by the party. Democratic Party leaders who developed the plan, which also would move scheduled school elections from May 5 to the primary date, back it as a way out of the impasse between the campaigns of Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama over the legitimacy of the state’s Jan. 15 election, which was held in violation of national party rules."

So many links this week that I’m not even writing an intro. Here we go …
Back in April ‘06, I wrote a column about getting billed for Clippers tickets that included an extended section about Sam Cassell’s brilliance and all the “little things” he does for a basketball team. I demand that you read it if you’re a Celtics fan. Maybe Sam is at the tail end of his career, but his spirit and personality remain as strong as ever, and I don’t think people back home fully realize how many unique things Sam does during the course of an NBA game, or how much fun they’re going to have watching him play on a game-to-game basis. You can’t overstate how big the Cassell and P.J. Brown signings were for the Celtics; in the span of 48 hours, I went from thinking they were destined for a Round 2 exit in Cleveland to believing they can win the championship if everything falls right.
At long last, we have an official photo of the exact moment when the Pats’ 19-0 season started to go down the tubes. Look to the right … yep, it’s the ominous pregame handshake between Tom Brady and Pat O’Brien! It’s interesting that the celebration on Bourbon Street after Super Bowl XXXVI happened at Pat O’Brien’s (a bar on Bourbon Street), and the downfall of the 19-0 season started with Pat O’Brien. I don’t know what this means. Thanks to Steve Harding for taking the photo and reader Hugh Q. for sending it along.
