THE SCOOP: Jay-Z, Mary J., KRS, Keyshia Cole

March 26th, 2008

This week, singer Keyshia Cole shoots the third video from her already platinum-selling sophomore LP, Just Like You. The single, Heaven Sent” is the fourth from the album (following “Shoulda Let You Go” featuring Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim, “Let It Go” and “I Remember”). According to ConcreteLoop.com, Benny Boom will direct the video in Hawaii. Reportedly, the treatment was inspired by the famed “Footprints in the Sand” poem.
Hip-hop pioneer KRS-One is working with fellow Brooklyn rapper Buckshot of Black Moon to create a new album – a dream come true for Buckshot as KRS not only joins him in the booth but on the roster of Buck’s Duck Down Records. “It’s a dream to be able to work with KRS-One. Before I even began rapping that is who I checked for. I kept the Blueprint album on me at all times. That is all I listened to for an entire summer.”
So far the duo has made three tracks for the as-yet-untitled album Buckshot describes as a “conflosation.” “…Even when KRS-One is flowing he’s having a conversation with his audience… ranging from New World Order, to socially conscious topics such as unemployment, poverty, and politics. At the same time, we will speak to the streets, as that is what I’m known to do.”
In another new “old school” move, KRS will also be featured on a partial Juice Crew reunion album. Rapper Craig G and Crew founder/producer Marley Marl are teaming up to release Operation: Take Back Hip-Hop later this spring. “Operation: Take Back Hip-Hop is just what it is,” Craig G said. “Instead of me wasting years complaining along with journalists and everyone else, Marley and I are trying to make change through music. This is my passion, this is what raised me, and I refuse to stand by and watch my culture get destroyed any further with poor quality music.” The album will also feature rappers Talib Kweli, Rakaa of Dilated Peoples, and Sadat X.
