Demon baby apology by MP Belinda Neal

June 19th, 2008

A FEMALE Labor MP who cursed a pregnant rival in Parliament, saying her baby would turn into “a demon”, has been forced to apologise.
Victorian Liberal Sophie Mirabella claims Belinda Neal told her: "Your baby will be turned into a demon by evil thoughts."
Ms Neal apologised in the House of Representatives yesterday.
"I have had time to reflect . . . and, though the comments (by Ms Mirabella) were not completely accurate, I do unreservedly withdraw any remarks that may have caused offence to the member," she said.
Ms Mirabella, who will shortly take leave to have her baby, said Ms Neal needed counselling and professional help.
"Despite the Prime Minister’s supposed commitment to improving parliamentary standards, the Member for Robertson (NSW) has shown that the Labor Party will stop at nothing to denigrate others — even attacking an unborn child," Ms Mirabella said.

Solution for Age of Conan error code 103: Update did not complete

June 17th, 2008

A huge number of Age of Conan gamers were not very happy recently, as they were receiving error code 103: Update did not complete. Well it does seem as if there is a solution for this error, but that fix in itself has been causing headaches for some Age of Conan gamers. Many have not been able to get the fix to work properly, so one member from the Age of Conan forum has posted a guide to this fix.
Here is his guide to getting the fix for Age of Conan error code 103, it started with him getting failed with error 302. Here is what his answer was “So I deleted the RDB/RDBHashIndex.bin , and re-run AoC and it went and got it again, then it started patching.”
He then added “Check your patcher.log (should be in root folder of AoC) and open it in WordPad and go all the way to the bottom and see what file caused the patcher to hang and delete it before running the updater.”
So keeping it simple you need to go to your AoC Root folder, go to RDB Folder and delete the following file: RDBHashIndex.bin. You then need to run the patch again; this should then solve the problem.
It seems as if some people are still having a little trouble, one guy deleted the wrong file, and he now has to wait another 15 hours to download a 15.3 gig file. Just remember to take your time, as you do not want to make the same mistake as the person did above.

Credit union gets boost from marketing

June 17th, 2008

It seems that everywhere you look in Jackson, American 1 Federal Credit Union is sponsoring something.
From the $112,500 over 10 years for naming rights to the Fair Events Center, to the $60,000 five-year sponsorship of the Rose Parade and Party at the Park, the credit union has increasingly been lending its name and resources to community events.
Sponsoring more than 20 events throughout the year, and coordinating and organizing most of them, the American 1 spends about $150,000 a year in event marketing.
“All the community involvement that we do helps to build our brand within the community and overall build relationships and trust and brings people in our doors,” said Kristi Latoszewski, vice president of marketing and communications.
The amount spent has been growing gradually each year, she said.
But in a struggling economy, how is American 1 benefiting from the dollars it spends to promote itself?
“We are able to do these things because we have had a very successful 2007 and we are continuing to grow,” Latoszewski said. “We feel that it is our obligation to do what we can for the community.”
Much of American 1’s success comes from the company’s marketing efforts, Latoszewski said, adding that she “absolutely” believes it attracts business.

White Scores Top Five Finish at Five Mile Point Speedway

June 16th, 2008

by Steve Pados , Barry White Racing
MERTZTOWN, Pa. — Barry White, the extremely popular Modified campaigner from Mertztown, Pennsylvania, has in his own words been awful in his early season starts at the Five Mile Point Speedway.
One crazy malady after another has haunted the team since the 2008 racing season began. The season began on a somber note as first Barry’s wife was injured in a freak accident at her place of employment and lost the use of her hand for many months as the recovery has been extremely slow and the rehabilitation has been quite painful. If that wasn’t enough Barry’s Mom and the team’s “Chief Cook and Bottle Washer” suffered a major stoke that sent the team reeling even more. Mom is on her way to recovery as well but the team has suffered a great deal without the moral support of the solid team members.
When White first fired-up the car at the start of the new campaign, the car acted well when he cracked the throttle in the race shop. Once the team arrived at FMP for the first race all of that changed as the car proved to be bulky and unresponsive no matter what the team tried to do to cure the ills. This led to White taking off the carb and sending it out for inspection and repair. Once those ills were solved the car became tough to tame on the raceway and White found himself flustered at the misfortunes of the team.
Saturday night as the Point was no different as White raced to a third place finish in his heat event but once again was having a problem in turning the car. White began the feature event from the pole position by virtue of the handicapping process and did jump out to an early lead in the contest. Deciding his car was not going to co-operate for the duration of the feature, White allowed the first one car to move by him on the outside and knew for the remainder of the race he would have a fistful of race car to try and negotiate around the 1/4 mile FMP race track. Despite the ill handling piece, White found enough straightaway speed to hang on and finish the event with a solid top five finish, his first in the new season at FMP.

Children’s ward for Barbuda hospital

June 14th, 2008

by Nikisha Smith
After completing the island’s new radiology centre, the Barbuda Council is seeking further funds to expand the Hannah Thomas Hospital to include a children’s ward.
“We recognise that our population is growing and we need to separate the adults from the children. We were advised by our technical people and doctors that we need to do that,” MP for Barbuda Trevor Walker said.
He said the government is committed to the continual expansion of the hospital.
Walker said drawings for the structure have already been made by Architect Chad Knight Alexander and the Council will be making the request for funds to the Medical Benefits Board soon.
The cost of the building has not been estimated as yet but the size of the addition has been projected to provide for the island’s needs for the next 10 years, given the population’s growth rate.
The MP said he hopes to see the expansion done as soon as possible. That would be phase two of the hospital’s expansion, phase one being the addition of a radiology centre.
The building, costing approximately $195,000 and financed by the Barbuda Council, was finished a month ago after a two-year building period.
“The building was very technical because they will be dealing with radiation. It has to be built to certain specifications so we had to engage technicians from Antigua and a specialist from Barbados to ensure the building was constructed properly,” Walker said.
He said an X-ray machine has been bought and will soon be shipped to Barbuda via Antigua.
A technician is presently undergoing radiology training in Antigua to learn how to use the machine.
The MP said the radiology department would be state of the art. It has been set up so that when an x-ray is taken in Barbuda, the technicians would be able to send it digitally to Antigua so that patient care can be continuous if there is a transfer.

Weekly Roundup: US Candidates on Cuba, Australia-Chile Pact, and …

June 14th, 2008

The Candidates on Cuba, the Americas
Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama delivered his first major remarks on U.S. policy in the Western Hemisphere during a Friday speech at the Cuban American National Foundation in Miami. The senator from Illinois said he would carry on the U.S. embargo against Cuba but reverse travel and remittance restrictions, continue and update the Andean Counter-Drug Program, improve security through diplomacy in Central America and by stemming smuggling at the U.S.-Mexico border, create a regional energy partnership, and support free-trade agreements with environmental and labor laws attached. Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro responded to Obama’s comments in Granma, criticizing the senator’s proposed Cuba policy while calling him the most “progressive” of the candidates.
During his remarks, Obama described President George Bush’s Americas policy as “negligent” and said the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain “chose to embrace” the Bush record on Latin America. His criticism of Republican policy came days after McCain described Obama’s proposal to meet with Cuban President Raúl Castro as a step that “would send the worst possible signal to Cuba’s dictators.”
During a speech in Puerto Rico, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton pledged to support Cuban civil society and argued that the minor reforms made by Cuban President Raúl Castro “are minor compared with the giant leaps” needed.
AS/COA Online takes a closer look at the McCain-Obama debate over U.S. policy toward Cuba.
Puerto Rico’s Primaries
New York Senator Hillary Clinton spent three days campaigning in Puerto Rico, where she is favored to win the June 1 primary but admitted that she faces an uphill battle in the race to win the Democratic nomination. The candidates compete for 63 delegate votes in the territory of Puerto Rico, which participates in the primaries but not in the November presidential election. A New York Times op-ed by Columbia University’s Michael Janeway outlines Puerto Rico’s role in U.S. presidential elections.

Always a star, never an All-Star

June 14th, 2008

Life, like a rope down the line, isn’t always fair. And this certainly is the season that sparks spirited, often vitriolic debates concerning overlooked players who justly deserve All-Star status.
Alas, some of the players may win the debate but always lose the campaign. That just seems to be their lot in baseball life, for a variety of reasons. Always a star, never an All-Star. While that may not have the ring of that other June lament, “always a bridesmaid, never a bride,” it has the same sting.
It’s been that way ever since the first All-Star teams were assembled in 1933.
Funny, though, when you think about it: There are literally dozens of All-Stars every summer, but unique, enduring notoriety comes to the comparatively few who are also worthy but survive summer after summer as Non-Stars.
This season is no different. A Non-Star lineup of players is “competing” for the privilege of one day being remembered in the same vein as Kirk Gibson and Tim Salmon.
Gibson, as in “the only MVP to never be an All-Star.”
“I was a different breed, you might remember,” said Gibson, the combative 1988 National League MVP and now the Diamondbacks bench coach. “I was very competitive, focused on my team. I might’ve had a chance to go a couple of times, but I never showed much interest in it.
“Do I regret it now? Put it this way: The two World Series celebrations (1984 Tigers, 1988 Dodgers) I was a part of were much sweeter than anything else I could have experienced.”
Salmon, as in “the guy with the most home runs (299) who was never an All-Star.”
Consider Seattle’s Adrian Beltre, already the only home run king to never be an All-Star — and that’s going all the way back to the 1933 season. In his breakout 2004 season with the Dodgers, Beltre led the NL with 48 homers. The third baseman already had quite a platform by the time the league’s All-Star team was filled out — batting .327 with 21 jacks — but …

The Battle Between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama Rages on in HTML

June 14th, 2008

NO, McCain would be terrible as Sec. of Defense. I liked him MUCHO better as a senator. He’s very good in that position. He was voting the way he SHOULD vote, with his conscience, not just party line. And he started switching when the GOP were obviously throwing their support behind Romney. IMO, he’s become another horned lizard.
McCain would vote for the 2000 McCain. He was running on some of his principles then, and he’d have taken a different path from Dubya, had he won. He was right for the job then. But he changed when he decided to run again 8 years later, when the GOP were clearly trying to change America into something she isn’t-a CHRISTIAN NATION, in answer to the ISLAMIC NATIONS around the
No one has doubted that the GOP is planning their strategy of evil against Obama. It’s a given. Yeah, it would be cool if Hillary were giving McCain “the kiss of death.” But I wonder how ugly Obama will be with all of the 8 years of fodder to throw back at McCain, that McCain did/didn’t support. I worry about that, because the Democrats in general have had several golden opportunities to really tear into the GOP, yet let them all fly away. I fervently hope that this time, someone gets it right at the convention.
@daringtexan and Mike - Wouldn’t it be cool if the Corleone Kiss to Fredo (McCain) came from Hillary knowing victory is coming. The G.O.P. playbook is a necessary evil to get to Barak’s vision. Ergot Hillary. And don’t think for a second, (time is irrelevant for the pic) she’s not playing poker.
Who do you think McCain would vote for honestly now: McCain 2000 or McCain 2008? He didn’t forget the torture in Vietnam. He certainly didn’t forget Bush’s torture in 2000. Timing is everything. I hope he is Secretary of Defense.
