Weather Eye: Annual Rose Festival showers settle in

This week has been more reminiscent of the type of weather usually associated with the Rose Festival low that settles in this time of the year. Lots of clouds, some drizzle or showers and a few sun breaks as well. We have had a complex weather pattern the past week or so with several low-pressure systems hanging around the western U.S.
Finally the pesky lows to our east will slide further eastward with another one remaining to our south that may push moisture northward on Saturday, triggering some thundershowers over the mountains. I think the weekend will remain dry with morning clouds and afternoon sunshine and temperatures right around 70 degrees, plus or minus a few.
Looking into next week we may be experiencing the same old clouds, drizzle and showers. Pretty much like this week although I think we may be a bit warmer. Our highs this week have been running nearly 10 degrees below average. During the next three or four days, we should be back to normal in that department.
Rainfall for May in Vancouver will once again end up below average for the month by over an inch. The average mean temperature for the month as of Thursday afternoon was 3.3 degrees below average. It is a very cool month indeed despite a brief heat wave and a 96 degree high earlier in the month. I am sure when we review local statistics next week, there will be some observers who received a deluge from last Saturday’s thunderstorm that may have closer-to-average rainfall. Portland International Airport received .93 of an inch from the storm while Pearson Field only recorded .39 of an inch. And at my home in Salmon Creek I had nothing at all.
Enjoy the weekend. A few clouds, some sunshine, highs comfortable around 70 degrees or so, maybe a lightning display over the Cascades — got to love it!
