I saw a screening of the first part of Bush’s War and it is really good. It is a fair reporting of what happened. If you don’t think it is, then watch. They interview Bush Administration officials who proudly say what they believe - that a president has almost absolute power during war time, etc. But what you really get out of the first part is that the Bush administration at its highest levels had a locker room mentality. There were a bunch of guys swinging around their egos, demeaning those that didn’t agree with them and trying to exert their superiority. And what comes through true is that Bush got dominated by Cheney and Rumsfeld - two older and more experienced men. In a way, I feel sad for Mr. Bush. He was over his head when he got elected and the men around him only took advantage. It was only until Bush realized what a mess they had made that he decided to take charge and by then it was too late. His presidency had been destroyed and his legacy tarnished forever.

A number of documentaries on CBC have shown that the Neo-Cons were planning on going into Iraq as far back as the beginning of Clinton’s second term. They wrote a letter to Clinton asking him to attack Iraq. The people who signed it? Rumsfeld, Chaney, Wolfowitz, etc…. All they needed was another “Pearl Harbour” event to justify going in they wrote. Clinton rejected it…but Bush was elected, and we all know who filled his cabinet…the very same people. Years before Sept 11, 2001, Bush & Co were planning on invading Iraq…and to think, in all that time, they didn’t make any contingency plans about how to fight an insurgency, or get out if things went bad. So even if you agree with going in and ousting Saddam, you should be angry that they didn’t do a better job of planning. I think the average war gamer would have done a better job with 4+ years of planning!ttyl

I love how people are all like “stupid libs” when pbs is cited consistently as the most reliable news source in the country.I guess reality has a liberal bias.

Frontline also did a great doc on the influence Cheney had over the adminstration’s executive power grab during the wake of 9/11: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/vie …

PBS puts out some great docs and this should be no different. I’m looking forward to it.
